Let’s take a look into what irregular eating could actually involve:
You aren’t very good at getting out of bed in the morning and will usually hit the snooze button a few too many times. When you finally get out of bed, there’s only 10 minutes left to get showered, dressed, ready and on the way to work - definitely not enough time for breakfast.
Skipping breakfast, firstly, isn’t a great start to the morning. It can leave you unable to concentrate and, when hunger finally strikes, you could end up looking for a mid-morning snack. A piece of fruit and some nuts is a great, healthy choice. Try to avoid chocolate, crisps or anything unhealthy and try not to eat too quickly as this could be the first step towards heartburn and indigestion symptoms.
At lunch time, you run to the shops and with a whole lunch hour to fill, you could sit down at the café for a nice relaxed lunch. However, you’re a busy person so you have to grab a sandwich and eat it on the go, just as you do every day. You have lots of important errands to run after all and lunch isn’t your priority.
Eating lunch on the go isn’t the best way to leave your stomach feeling settled for the day ahead – in fact you could end up with heartburn and indigestion as you aren’t giving your body time to digest your food before you are up and about again. You should also be more wary if your lunch is spicy, fatty or contains other key triggers such as tomatoes too.
After work, all your colleagues go out for a drink and not wanting to miss out, you go along too. What was supposed to be one drink after work, turns into a few hours of socialising with friends surrounded by alcohol and going to bed at 12am without any dinner.
You haven’t really eaten anything substantial all day but now, adding fizzy drinks and alcohol to the equation, means you aren’t just hungry but potentially bloated. The more the evening goes on, you may have even started to feel the oncoming symptoms of heartburn or indigestion.
If you feel this relates to your lifestyle somewhat then it might be time to start thinking about what you can do to try and prevent this, and your heartburn and indigestion, reoccurring. Sit down when you eat and take time to prepare meals which you know don’t contain any potential triggers. However, for times when heartburn strikes, Gaviscon Double Action will relieve you of your heartburn and indigestion quickly, allowing you to get on with your busy day. Suitable from 12 years old. Always read the label.
